When future generations look back at this one, what will be the main feature that defines it?  Will it be a “Dark Ages” or a “Renaissance?”  Will our time be seen as the age when the United Nations was organized? - when democracy was first universally applied? - when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted? - when space travel began? - when atomic power was first used? - when communism was abandoned? - when Islamic militancy resurfaced? - when smallpox was eradicated?

No.  I believe our time will be known as “the Wasteful Age,” recalling a selfish, myopic generation which depleted the world’s natural resources: its oil, its forests, its oceans, its skies.
